Why should I vote in the Democratic Primary on March 5, 2024?

This is a question that I’ve heard for the past 18 years living in Montgomery County. It boils
down to “Why bother?’ or “I want to have a say in local politics and there aren’t any local
contested Democratic races.” While I understand both feelings, when Democrats and Liberals
either stay home and don’t vote or vote in the conservative primary, they risk long-term
rewards for extremely little to no short-term gain.
First, not everyone who crosses over tries to vote for the most reasonable candidate on the
other side, many will try to vote for the most outrageous candidate hoping that they’re easier
to beat. Just look at the 2016 Presidential election result and shudder at the thought of that
happening again.
Second, when more voters participate in the Democratic Primary, even in solidly red areas, it
has been proven that the way the winning candidate governs is more moderate than when they
win in a landslide. By voting in the Democratic Primary everyone wins. You’ll end up, over time,
with more moderate candidates on the opposition side; and you’ll end up attracting Democratic
candidates who may not have run otherwise. Success breeds success. More candidates equal
more campaign donations for everyone, including the Montgomery County Democratic Party
(MCDP).
Conservatives have exclusively governed both Texas and Montgomery County for about 30
years. I believe the best mix of governing for everyone is closer to a 50/50 split. The way it is
now in Montgomery County, the word “compromise” means that you give up and agree with
the conservative way of governing. We need Democrats and Liberals in office to reign in the
negligence that has been happening here. Did you know that our County Commissioners had to
RETURN about $7 million in CARES ACT funds because they couldn’t get those funds into the
hands of residents who needed them fast enough? Our County Commissioners managed to
spend most of those funds allocated to our law enforcement agencies, why couldn’t they
distribute the funds to residents who needed them to remain in their homes?
It’s beyond time to vote them out of office. See you at Early Voting February 20-March 1, or on
Election Day, March 5, 2024. Make your voting plan now.
